El objetivo del presente trabajo es conocer y describir el significado psicológico de mensajes de los Medios de Comunicación Masiva sobre temas relacionados con el sexo y la posible existencia de diferencias entre géneros. Apoyado de la Teoría del Aprendizaje Social Cognitivo de Bandura, donde se manifiesta que los espectadores aprenden, a través de la observación creencias, pensamientos, comportamientos, etc. recompensados o castigados, y mientras el modelo sea más atractivo, la imitación del comportamiento será más fácil. El muestreo fue no probabilístico, y contó con la participación de 171 estudiantes universitarios, con una edad promedio de 20.47 (D.E.=1.556). Se utilizó la técnica de Redes Semánticas Naturales Modificadas con los siguientes estímulos: a) “métodos anticonceptivos”; b) “abstinencia”; c) “primera relación sexual”; y d) “condón”. No sé encontraron diferencias entre las palabras definidoras entre hombres y mujeres, por el contrario, las respuestas fueron muy parecidas, especialmente para la descripción del condón (rs=.97, p<05); la mayor parte de las definidoras fueron de la dimensión cognoscitiva, a excepción de la primera relación sexual, que presenta elementos emocionales; y dentro del marco semántico de los universitarios no se encuentran consecuencias de la vida sexual como el VIH/SIDA, ni el aborto. Los universitarios son conscientes de que la seguridad y la responsabilidad son esenciales en la vida sexual, y como variables conductuales importantes se encontraron la prevención y la protección.
