Objetivo: Evaluar el patrón de comportamiento sexual de universitarios y determinar las diferencias por sexo. En el estudio participaron 590 universitarios (43.7% hombres-56.3% mujeres) con edad promedio de 20.42 (DE=1.84). El muestreo fue no aleatorio y a través de un cuestionario se obtuvo información sobre el patrón de comportamiento sexual divido en: a) características de la primera relación sexual, 2) comportamiento sexual subsecuente al debut sexual y 3) otros indicadores de riesgo. La aplicación se realizó grupal y voluntariamente destacando el anonimato y confdencialidad. Resultados: los varones debutan sexualmente a edades más tempranas, tienen más parejas sexuales, no usan ningún método anticonceptivo en su primera relación sexual, tienen diversidad de prácticas sexuales en comparación con las mujeres. Las mujeres planean la primera relación sexual, debutan sexualmente con la pareja sentimental –y no con amigos- y utilizan con mayor frecuencia el condón en su debut sexual, presentan mayor proporción de ITS, abortos y embarazos no deseados en comparación con los hombres.
